YES yes yes. It was the win of the day!
Little wonder Hawkesbury trainer Jason Attard declared Oui Oui Oui a “special filly” after she had turned in a huge performance to score at Kembla Grange today at only her second start.
Ridden by Tom Sherry, the three-year-old daughter of 2019 The Everest winner Yes Yes Yes conceded what looked an impossible start in the Provincial Maiden Plate (1200m) before overwhelming her rivals.
A well supported $2.60 favorite at her first start since November, Oui Oui Oui defeated Kembla Grange trainers Rob and Luke Price’s Me Me ($5.50) and fellow Hawkesbury trainer Ed Cummings’ Cathedral Cove ($3.80).
And her victory could hardly have been better timed.
Bred by Kate Nivison’s Etak Thoroughbreds, Oui Oui Oui is a half-sister to dual Hawkesbury winner and city placegetter Leandra (by Choisir), who has just been retired.
Additionally, the filly’s dam, the Bernardini mare Buon Auspicio, was retired from breeding last October.
Oui Oui Oui was entered for the 2023 Inglis Classic yearling sale, but didn’t reach her reserve and was passed in at $150,000.
“Kate gave her to me to train, and I’m very thankful,” Attard said en route home this evening.
“She ran a nice fourth on debut at Kembla Grange in early November, and was given a break.
“Without doubt she has come back bigger and better.
“I gave her just the one trial at home on March 25 over 1000m, and she was outstanding beating nine rivals without being put under pressure.
“I told Tom (Sherry) not to push her early, but didn’t expect her to get that far back.
“She couldn’t muster early, but was really impressive the way she finished off.
“I’m sure she will be better at 1400m and perhaps even 1600m.
“Oui Oui Oui is a special filly. I think we’ve got a good one and she is definitely one of the best horses I have trained in quite a while.”
RacingNSW stewards reported that Oui Oui Oui began only fairly and shortly after the start was crowded between two other runners.
After the 800m she had to be steadied off the heels of Bride Wars, and in the early part of the home straight was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
