HAWKESBURY Race Club is on the verge of a major 2025 milestone – the 20th anniversary of the Saturday stand-alone meeting.
A jewel in the NSW racing calendar, the 10-race program boasting more than $1.8m in prizemoney, will be run on Saturday week (May 3).
Whilst the iconic Hawkesbury Gold Cup dates back to 1871, it was in 2006 that Hawkesbury hosted its own Saturday stand-alone meeting, which has since become a much-loved tradition for racing fans across the State.
This year’s Cup Day promises a stellar line-up of elite racing, vibrant entertainment and community celebration, made possible thanks to the generous backing of the club’s valued sponsors.
Headlining the card is the time-honored $250,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m), won last year by Victorian visitor Just Folk, and sponsored by Richmond Club, a long-standing supporter of the local region and its racing heritage.
Two more Group 3 features – each also worth $250,000 - are the Elite Sand & Soil Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m), and Pioneer Services Hawkesbury Crown (1300m).
The Guineas, won last year by favorite Schwarz (pictured above), features the next generation of star three-year-olds, whilst the Hawkesbury Crown, won last year by UK import Coco Jamboo at $41, showcases the speed and talent of top-class fillies and mares.
The action continues with the Listed XXXX Gold Rush (1100m) thanks to Lion Co, whose bold nature captures the exciting energy of this sprint event.
Among fellow valued sponsors, Hawkesbury acknowledges Blakes Marine – a founding sponsor of the club’s stand-alone Saturday meeting.
“For 20 years, Blakes Marine has supported HRC and once again return as a sponsor at our biggest raceday of the year,” said the club’s sales and marketing manager Eliza Babazogli.
“Their ongoing commitment is testament to the strength of community partnerships in the racing industry.”
Other key races and sponsors include:
. 2YO Clarendon Stakes – St Johns Park Bowling Club
. Benchmark Handicap – The Lawn Shed
. Benchmark Handicap – Clarendon Tavern
. Highway Handicap – TAB
. Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap
Ms Babazogli added: “Hawkesbury Race Club extends its heartfelt thanks to all sponsors whose support not only powers this iconic day, but helps foster the growth of our racing community in the Greater Western Sydney and beyond.
“Join us for a day of racing, fashion, community and celebration as we honour the past 20 years and race into the future.”
